Summer’s here! School’s out, the days are long and golden, and the weather is warm. And given all the challenges of the year just gone, this Summer seems especially precious. Which is why it’s time to time to find our joy again and celebrate the most Australian of seasons.

Congratulations to Darren and Anastasia Gauci on being judged as the winners of Modeina’s spectacular Christmas Lights competition for 2019.

 

It was a case of ‘third time lucky’ for the Darren and Anastasia, who reside in Belvedere Crescent.

 

“We’ve come third for the past two years and wanted to go all out to take out the big prize this year,” Darren explains.

 

Along with a cheque for $1500 for their efforts, the family enjoyed the nightly visitors dropping by to take photographs of their home.

Summer for many means, swimming, bbqs, beach cricket and fun outside. But there are days when going outside isn’t much fun and staying cool inside is the best option.  Here’s our top tips on staying cool and beating the heat. 1. Close your blinds, especially for north and west facing windows. 2. Adjust ceiling fans, make sure your fans are rotating counter clockwise and pushing the air straight down. 3. Close doors that aren’t being used to keep cool air where it’s most needed. 4. Chill out, stay hydrated and apply a damp cloth to your neck and pressure points. 5.

We need to stay cool in summer and so too do our pets.  Here’s our top tips for furry, feathery friends.  1. Keep cool, make sure they have a cool and shaded place to rest.  In extreme heat bring them indoors. 2, Water, provide plenty of fresh water in large containers, sometimes multiple containers are a good idea. 3. Kids wading pools are great for pets too. 4. Walk your furry friend early morning or evening. Hot pavements can cause serious damage to their paws. 5. Did you know that Australia has one of the highest rates of skin cancer in the world?  We all need to be sun smart this summer and we’re not just talking slip, slop, slap!  It’s now – Slip on clothing that covers as much skin as possible. Slop on a high protection sunscreen at least 20mins before going outside. Slap on a broad brimmed hat. Seek shade.

Whilst the warmer weather is great for being outdoors, our gardens can suffer from the heat.  Here’s our top tips for keeping your garden thriving –

Modeina estate, for another season, will sponsor the Westside Strikers FC - this time with a $5,000 injection of funds.

The 2020 soccer season is well underway with trials in progress and pre-season training not far away.

“As a Gold sponsor, the funding will go toward training equipment such as ball, goals and referee vests, as well as helping to support the establishment of a fun new program aimed at 5 years old to orientate them into soccer and assist with skill acquisition,” says Marketing Manager, Marea Ekladious.
