Have your kids added an e-scooter or e-bike to their Christmas list? E-scooters and e-bikes continue to grow in popularity across Victoria, offering fun, convenient and environmentally friendly ways to get around. To make the most of your ride, it’s important to understand where and how you can use them safely and legally.
E-scooters
E-scooters are now legal to ride in Victoria, with clear rules in place to keep everyone safe. They can be used on shared paths and on roads with speed limits of 60km/h or under.
To enjoy the ride:
Riders must be 16 years or older
A helmet is required at all times
E-scooters must not exceed 25km/h
Riding on footpaths, carrying passengers or animals, or riding side-by-side is not allowed
These simple rules help ensure e-scooters remain a safe and accessible transport option for people of all ages.
E-bikes / Power-assisted bikes
E-bikes are becoming a favourite choice for commuting and weekend exploring, offering an extra boost to help conquer hills and long distances. The best part? They can be ridden on public roads, bike paths, and shared paths without the need for registration or a licence.
